Very true...It's funny that sometimes when we don't have an answer to why we're suffering, we invite guilt and say that 'we must pay paying for something we've done in our past life.' To err is human, and to be guilty is even more!

I agree with you...it can't be a blanket answer to everything. But in the case of friends and family I'm talking about most situations where we do many things we don't like for them. You could again argue that we do it to keep them happy...but you can't do away with my argument either.

Also, in Sirius's case...of course he was guilty. Forget the obvious reason that he admits it in various parts of the book that was guilty about changing the keeper but the fact that he do something tiny that got them killed. He was guilty and defensive for not being able to do anythng, for having misjudged Peter...it was unrequired guilt but it still ate at him.

I agree with you when you say that Guilt can bring a strong man down to his knees. But I don agree that it is completely true and true in all cases.
Firstly, why I think I have this need to take care of family and friends is Selfishness. I dont want to be alone. It is not guilt.
Secondly, Sirius Black was really angry with himself for not being there as a friend when James needed him the most. Not guilt! and when he was in confinement, he was mad at ppl for not believing him and that Harry was still in danger and he couldnt do anything. I really dont see ure point of guilt in his case. If Sirius had killed his friend, then guilt.

I could not agree with you more on this. And I see this manifest everywhere around me, I see it used on me, I see myself use it on others too. And often we do it without realising what a powerful force we wield. Thank you for scratching the surface and exposing this force. Perhaps that will make us a little more aware and cautious before we unleash it.
